Wedding Rings
Wedding rings,
or wedding bands as they are often called, are said to have
originated in Ancient Egypt and were fashioned from rushes,
hemp or braided grass. The Romans continued the tradition
utilizing iron, and by the Middle Ages gold was most often
used, frequently decorated with precious gemstones.
Mens wedding
rings are a newer tradition that grew rapidly during the Second
World War when many men were separated from their loved ones
for long periods of time and sought a symbolic reminder.
At Birkbeck’s
Jewellers we have an extensive range of plain and fancy wedding
rings for men and women in 9ct and 18ct yellow or white gold
and titanium. You may wish to talk to us about having your
rings specially designed and hand made, possibly incorporating
diamonds, or other precious gems.
