Diamond Engagement Rings

A diamond engagement ring is considered to be the ultimate declaration of love and has a history stretching back through the centuries. The Romans thought diamonds were splinters from falling stars whilst the Ancient Greeks regarded them as tears of the gods. Cupid’s arrows were said to be tipped with diamonds. The word diamond is derived from the Greek word “adamas” meaning unconquerable. The first recorded account of a diamond engagement ring was in 1477 when Archduke Maximillian of Austria proposed to Mary of Burgundy.
